This Privacy Policy explains how The Modern Shrine ("The Modern Shrine," "we," "us," or "our"), operating from Singapore, collects, uses, stores, and protects information when you use our website, account features, guided prompts, workshop tools, birth-profile tools, and AI chat experiences.

The short version: we collect the information needed to operate the service, personalize your experience, save your account and chat history, and improve reliability. We do not sell your personal data. AI-generated insights are provided for informational, educational, and self-reflection purposes only.

1. Who we are

The Modern Shrine provides pattern-based reflection tools, BaZi-inspired and astrology-inspired insights, guided prompts, workshop experiences, and AI-assisted chat for decision support and self-reflection. The Modern Shrine operates from Singapore.

2. Information we collect

Account information

• Email address.
• Name, if you provide it.
• Password hash for email/password accounts. We do not store your password in plaintext.
• Account status, plan, and basic account settings.

Birth profile and chart information

• Gender, birth date, birth time, and birth location when you provide them.
• Birth-time mode, such as exact or approximate time.
• Generated BaZi chart data, chart status, and related profile information.

Chat, workshop, and guided prompt information

• Chat conversations, including user messages and AI responses.
• Chat titles, timestamps, visibility settings, and message feedback such as votes.
• Workshop, guided intake, and prompt responses that you submit.
• Uploaded files or attachments, if you choose to upload them in supported chat flows.

Leads, emails, and communications

• Email addresses and names submitted through free prompt packs, newsletter forms, or lead forms.
• Source information, such as which page or prompt pack generated the signup.
• Messages you send to us for support, privacy requests, or operational questions.

Usage, analytics, and technical information

• Feature usage events, such as chat messages sent, prompt packs requested, and tool interactions.
• Approximate location derived from request data, such as city or country, where available.
• Browser, device, operating system, IP address, timestamps, referral source, and system logs.
• Cookies and similar technologies used for authentication, preferences, analytics, and service operation.

3. Information we do not collect

• We do not store your password in plaintext.
• We do not collect or store card numbers. Payments are handled by third-party payment providers such as Stripe.
• We do not sell your personal data.
• We do not use your data for third-party advertising networks.
• We do not intentionally collect children's personal information.

4. How we use your information

We use information to:

• Create, authenticate, and manage your account.
• Save your profile, chart data, chat history, and workshop progress.
• Personalize AI chat responses and pattern-based reflections.
• Generate chat titles, AI responses, documents, and other requested outputs.
• Send prompt packs, transactional emails, support messages, and operational notices.
• Process purchases, billing status, or paid-product access where applicable.
• Monitor reliability, prevent abuse, debug errors, and improve the service.
• Review anonymized or aggregated chat themes, prompts, and usage patterns to improve our products, educational content, emails, and playbooks. We do not publish raw private chats as marketing copy or testimonials without permission.
• Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Use.

5. How we use AI

When you use AI chat or AI-assisted tools, we send the information needed to generate a response to AI infrastructure and model providers. This may include your current message, relevant messages from the same chat thread, saved birth-profile context, generated chart data, uploaded content you include, and relevant internal knowledge-base context.

The Modern Shrine currently uses AI infrastructure such as Vercel AI Gateway and related model providers. The specific model provider may vary depending on the selected model and routing. Those providers' own privacy and data-handling terms may apply to the content sent to them.

We do not currently train our own AI models on your chat content. AI-generated responses may be incomplete, inaccurate, symbolic, or interpretive. They are provided for informational, educational, and self-reflection purposes only and should not be treated as financial, legal, medical, psychological, or other professional advice.

6. Service providers and third parties

We may share information with service providers that help us operate The Modern Shrine. These providers process information only as needed to support the service.

• Hosting and application infrastructure, including Vercel.
• Database and storage infrastructure, including Supabase/Postgres and Vercel Blob where used.
• Authentication and account-management tools.
• AI infrastructure and model providers used to generate responses.
• Email and communication providers, including Resend where used.
• Analytics and product-improvement tools, including PostHog, Vercel Analytics, Google Analytics, and DataFast where enabled.
• Payment providers, including Stripe for paid products or checkout flows.
• Legal, security, or compliance recipients where required by law or necessary to protect rights and safety.

7. Cookies and analytics

We may use cookies and similar technologies for sign-in sessions, preferences, analytics, and service operation. Analytics help us understand whether pages, prompts, and chat features are working. We aim to use analytics for product improvement, not to sell personal data or target third-party advertising.

8. Data retention

We retain information while your account is active or as needed to provide the service. Chat conversations, saved profiles, chart data, workshop responses, uploaded files, and lead records may remain stored until deleted, anonymized, no longer needed, or removal is requested. Some records may be retained longer where required for legal, accounting, security, fraud-prevention, or legitimate operational purposes.

9. Cross-border data transfers

The Modern Shrine and its service providers may process information in countries outside your place of residence. Where applicable, we use service providers and safeguards intended to protect information during international processing and transfers.

10. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you.
• Correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
• Request deletion of your account or personal information.
• Object to or restrict certain processing.
• Request a copy of your data in a portable format.
• Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

11. Security

We use technical and organizational measures designed to protect your information, including encrypted connections, access controls, authentication, and managed infrastructure providers. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

12. Children's privacy

The Modern Shrine is not intended for children under 16, or a higher minimum age where required by local law. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

13. Third-party links

The service may link to third-party websites, checkout pages, documents, or tools. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies, not this Privacy Policy.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above. Material changes may be posted on this page or surfaced in the app. Continued use of the service after changes means you accept the updated policy.
